šŸ’š Why I Made This Calendar

I love calendars and planners.

I use the calendar on my phone, too, but I also like to have a paper calendar in a central location where notes and appointments can be added for the household.

I made a calendar for my own personal use in 2024 which I shared online as a free download. With my own printed calendar, I feel more comfortable scribbling notes and appointments all over it. Also, since we don’t celebrate holidays, it’s nice to have a blank slate to which I can add birthdays or holidays of my choosing.

🧔 How I Made This Calendar

For the new calendar, I tried to improve on last year, so I made some slight adjustments, mostly involving more room for holes to be punched along the top edge. I tried to have a little more fun with the names of the months and weeks this time, too.

For the names of the months, I cropped letters out of cards I made over the last couple of years, so you’ll see fonts from Spring, Midsommar, and Twilight from 2024, as well as from my coloring book Boogie Gets Framed, my basketball card from 2023, and even an ā€˜H’ from my Star Trek/Space themed card from 2013. I thought this would be easier than creating a new font from scratch. I’m not sure if it worked out that way, but I do like how it turned out.

The basic grid, names of days, and numbers were all written by hand. Most of the fonts for the names of the months were originally drawn by hand for the cards, with the exception of the sports font I used from the basketball cards — The original card was drawn by hand from a font called ā€œSports Worldā€ and I used that font for this calendar to fill in some of the missing letters.

šŸ’œ Ideas for Personalizing Your Calendar

I also wanted to share some ideas for personalizing the calendars.

You can certainly use it just as it is. You don’t need to put any further work into your calendar once you’ve printed it.

The simplest way to use it would be printing onto cardstock or thick paper and using a clip to hold the sheets together, which would also allow you to hang the calendar on a nail or thumbtack.

If you have a tool for punching holes and some twine or ribbon, you can make a calendar with a two-page format. I still used my clip for hanging, but you can also punch a hole in the center of the other side of your calendar if you don’t have a clip.

With the top page blank, you can attach your own photos, clippings from magazines, postcards, or anything else your heart desires!

I attached some photos with washi tape in this version, along with some sticky notes.
